Wink A Great Pull: A true story ( Long Read)

Yesterday, my wife and I, decided to go to the hobby store where she decided to buy me a few boxes for my upcoming birthday ( August 23rd, same as Kobe. LOL! ). Like most hobbyist, after purchasing a few boxes from the store, I could not wait to get home to do box breaks. So we both sat in the car, turned the engine and air on and proceeded tearing the boxes!

I’m assuming that you’ve all seen the horrible cards I got from those breaks. Anyway, we would place the decent cards on one side, and the commons within the black plastic bag given to us by the store. I usually have no use of commons and would toss them out as to not clutter my already filled table at home. After the disappointing breaks, we picked up my son at daycare. We took the opportunity to throw the black plastic bag in the cafeteria trash receptacle, picked up my son, and went home.

Later in the evening, as I was online, someone asked if I have obtained any other cards outside my depressing breaks, and…………

FLASHBACK! All my senses went on alarm to what drunks may call “ a moment of clarity”! I did have an autograph of a player within the black plastic bag! I obtained an autographed card before buying those boxes and just placed it in the bag!!! Feelings of anguish, frustration and well, stupidity all rolled in one.

What a sign for my birthday--crappy breaks, and losing an auto because of neglect.

So this morning, my family ran errands like the usual Saturday morning. My wife decides to drive us to my son’s school determined to look for the notorious plastic bag in order to cheer me up. We were lucky that there were landscapers there, so we were able to get through the gate, but unfortunately, all doors into the school were closed. One thing I hate is being in the proximity of my screw-ups, LOL! Once again, I just wanted to drive away, but my wife saw a big trash bin in the corner-the “daddy” one where all trash collects. She suggests rummaging. I hesitate. She tells me this may be the only opportunity. That as long as I know we tried, it would make me feel better.

So we give it the old college try. With a leap straight out of the Olympic gymnastics-well, in my age: “gym-nasty”, I jumped in the bin. I thank God for the inventor of clear disposable trash bags because we narrowed it down to three bags. My wife navigated, while I moved 2 of them. With Sherlock Holmes like deduction, she chose the one filled with cup cakes.

YAHTZHEE!!!! Found it! If it were not for my wife’s perseverance, I would have written that card off. Great birthday feeling.

Definitely a great pull!!!! LOL!!!

By the way, here is that autographed card:

I know, i know...but it was worth it.
