Multi-color BV$ ???
Hi guys, I have a question I need a little help with. I wanted to know how do you guys here determine the BV$ for a multi-color GU. Some people are saying 2 color is 2x BV$, 3 color is 3xBV$, etc. I want to know if this is a standard used way to determine the BV$ or if there is some other way to to this. There seems to be different way for each person so I am trying to find some sort of standard or majority way this is done. ALL opinions will be GREATly appreciated. Thanks...
PS- I don't know if there is a difference but if the different colors are from a patch and a jersey on the same card does it mean any different than a regular multi-color jersey card?

Thanks, it seems that alot of traders/collectors seem to be asking for 2 color =2x BV$, 3 color= 3x BV$ and so on. for multi-color GU's. On another site someone is selling their GU's for double for 2 colors, triple for 3 colors and so on AND he IS getting it. That's what brought up this question. I thought the double, triple thing was a little much but when I asked him about it he said that's what everyone is doing so I just wanted to check another site and see what their opinions were. Thanks all...

In addition to what was said:
Many newer insert sets usually have a "patch parallel" of some sort.
Also, many times the insert set will have a regular parallel in which they will try to have all the multi-colored swatches.
Therefore, I would not give a premium for these.
However, in many older sets, they did not have these parallels. For example in football, the 1999 Leaf Certified Gridiron Gear is listed in the newest Beckett with "*Multi-colored swatches: .6x to 1.5x" From this set, and older sets, I usually see a seller placing a premium. I think that this is fine, since there was no separation of the premium swatches/patches. These are usually rare, and I am usually willing to pay the premium price.
For newer sets, say SP Authentic jersey/auto RCs, it is extremely common to see the multi-colored swatches/patches. In this set, me myself will consider the multi-colored swatches the bv, and will pay less than bv for a single-colored swatch.
So, I always go by scans and knowledge of that particular set to determine what I think is right. If a seller will have a premium, I say it is up to them, but the buyer/trader ought to be able to see the patch/swatch to determine if they think it is good enough for a premium bv. HOWEVER, 2x for 2 colors, 3x for 3 colors, 4x for 4 colors, etc. is crazy IMO.
I have paid over double bv for a multi-colored patch I really wanted, and close to double bv for a multi-colored swatch that I really wanted. I saw them first, and had to have both, for I'd never see them or anything like them again for that particular card.
So, they might only trade/sell for that price they give. It is up to them, but I would not trade unless you believe it is also worth that premium.
David
(p.s. if that is incoherent or rambling...sorry. i have been studying and writing a paper for a few hours now, and am tired and still in that creative writing mode...haha)

Dave I gotcha. But added multipliers nowadays is wrong as like was said the book now covers them. Granted logo patches would command insane premiums. Say the head of a jaguar, the steeler emblem, lightning bolt etc.
Those would be pretty much name your price. But whom ever told you X2 X3 don't know what they are talking about. Make him show you one other person doing that. Then refer him to the newest beckett for pricing. Again its the traders card and they can ask for it whatever they want. But you don't have to buy/trade for it.

Alot depends on the teams' colors also.I collect Cowboys and Yankees and patches of those teams are pretty much the same colors all the time.So when a person brought in the Bernie Williams patch in my sig to the shop I go to,I told him to name his price. If you like the card, you'll go after it like I did.Would I have done that if it was the same dark blue and gray Yankee patches I see all the time,no.
But like the others said, whoever told you that 2 colors = 2X the BV and so on is nuts. The more unique it is,is what will raise the value. Here's what I consider "unique".It doesn't have that many colors total, but it's parts of the jersey you rarely see on a card.Hope all that rambling helps.
