Your Worst Trade Ever Contest ! - Winners Announced!
Hey everyone, if you've been trading for a while, sooner or later you're going to make a swap that you think is good at the time, but eventually leaves you wishing you had rubber legs so you could swing all the way around and kick yourself in the butt.
Well, here's a chance to take some of the pain away from those trades by telling us all about it here at TR. We want to give you a chance to laugh at yourself, cry over it, or whatever else you need as free online therapy to help get over it. In return, we're putting together a package of prizes to give out to people we think did a good job of explaining the situation to us. As we gather them together, I'll start listing the prizes here in this first post to let you know what's available.
The rules are kind of loose ... Just tell us about the trade, your feelings about it at the time ... Why you now feel it's your worst trade ever ... Try to make us laugh or feel for you in your darkest hour. All we ask is that you leave out names of who you traded with to avoid hurting feelings. Also, don't include anything that involves an incomplete trade with a thief. This should be all about legit trades that you now regret having made.
Since this is about something that makes you feel foolish, the contest winners will be announced on April Fools' Day. As I get more prizes listed, they'll be added here.

I'll start it off ... Mine took place in 2001, and I had just won a Donruss Stat Lines auto of Albert Pujols off of Ebay. It was a redemption, and I sent it in right away. Well, the time went by and I didn't hear anything for about 8 months. Finally, I get my package from Donruss and they explained that they gave out too many redemptions for the print run of the serial-#'d cards. Instead, they included an autographed version that had no known print run. I hung onto it for a bit, then ended up trading it for a Babe Ruth bat card with a print run of 50. At the time, there wasn't any real info on the Pujols, but after a while, it became apparent that there were very few of them, and it starting commanding about $400 on ebay. Needless to say, I could have sold the Pujols and gotten bat cards of Ruth and Dimaggio for my PC. While I love having the Ruth today, it would have been nice to have enough cash to add another NY legend with the extra money.

Looking back, my worst trade was with my little brother. I traded him a 1970 Nolan Ryan and a Darrell Evans RC for the infamous Billy Ripken "Rick Face" card. At the time, the BV was about the same. Obviously that's not true today. Oh well, live & learn. - fdgowin

well here it goes...
i pulled a dual bat card of ruth and mantle and almost cried.. the owner of the shop i pulled it in offered me 4 boxes for it:
03 sweet spot
04 sweet spot
03 bowman chrome draft
03 game face
the best card i got out of all 4 freakin boxes was a lance berkman auto out of the game face (1:500) and that was sold back to the owner for $100 so i gave up a ruth/mantle bat card for $100!! i cried for 3 hours

I think mine beats all but too embarrasing to share. If some of those prizes were appealing to me, I'd go out on a limb. :P

During the big Shaq craze
traded a Mantle Cert autographed ball
for
92-93 box of Stadium Club basketball, and didnt even get a shaq in the box!
plus a box of 92-93 Ultra Fleer, got a Shaq rejector
I could probably get these boxes now for 20 bucks

This one's easy for me.
The year was 1997. I had graduated from HS and was on my own. I was working full-time so I had a lot of money to blow and I did. I had purchased a few boxes of 96-97 Finest and had doubles and triples of all the rookies. Back then the BV's weren't as high as they are now so that's what makes this trade my worst.
My worst trade was 2 Kobe Finest RC's, 2 Iverson Finest RC's, and 1 Marbury Finest RC for...
Drexler/Olajuwon Stadium Club Class Acts Atomic Refractor ***Creased in the middle (booked $80 at the time, I think it's $20 now)
Stockton 96-97 Finest Gold (Still have it)
and a 4 card lot of Karl Malone inserts...BV was in the range of $60 (Have 3 of the 4 still)
The BV's were pretty close and in fact I think the trade was in my favor a bit. With the RC grading craze now this was easily my worst trade ever.
