worst trade I ever made was to trade a Cal Ripken Jr. RC for the hottest new SS at the time PAT LISTASH-----ouch. To top it off the Jr. card was one I had pulled myself and was mint. Ah it's true..hindsight is 20/20.

My worst ever trade. When I was alot younger and didn't know much about cards. I had a 1952 Mickey Mantle rookie. I was at the store and my brother bought the last comic book of Fantastic 4. I wanted it so bad that I gave him my Mantle and $2 bucks. I know now that it was the dumbest thing I had ver done because he used it on his bike spokes. Well to make a sad ending better. About 10 yrs ago my half brother was renovating a house and came acrossed a box. The owner told him to keep the box. He stopped by my house and gave the box to me. I found another mantle rookie, koosman/ryan rookie card, mays, aaron, and tons more. So what I totally threw away back then came back but only better with more old rookies.

Yikes - that really is a brutally bad trade. As for the bike spokes, think of it this way ... if so many people hadn't gotten rid of theirs, they wouldn't be worth nearly as much now. Not much of a silver lining, it's more of an aluminum lining.

My Card Inventory
|
when I was a kid we had no notions of card value. The main emphasis was on completing sets. There were three or four of us who traded duplicates for cards needed to complete sets. Inevitably there were cards none of us would get. This was the middle sixties and we were all about 12 or thirteen
In 1965 we were collecting Philadelphia football. The hard to find guy was Bears punter Bobby Jo Green. I traded a Jim Brown, a Johnny Unitas, a Bart Starr and a Fran Tarkenton for green, in order to finish my set. I kept those cards 30 years.

My Card Inventory

It was in the middle of 96-97 and 97-98 season of basketball, when skybox was having this 'complete set of Autographics redemption' contest. All you have to do was collect all 50 of redemption cards from 96-97 Zforce boxes. First, I thought it would be easy, as I had several already from few packs. So, I've spent nearly $1000 buying those zforce boxes, and I've realized only one of that #50 redemption card was made and I had to give up on my journey to the complete set of Autographics.
All I had left from those boxes were nearly nothing.. I had a few autographics I pulled out of those boxes, including Steve Nash. By that time, I didn't even know if there was a player named Steve Nash.. and it was booked for only around $15 ish... Even the card shop owner that I used to go refused to take this Steve Nash card for a couple pack of Zforce..
So.. I decided to put all the effort to trade this away.. and then I met this one guy online, who was from Canada and he was trying to get all the Nash cards in the world. He said he has a lot of customers trying to buy Nash cards as Nash was originated from Canada. So, I was happy enough to give this card + several steve nash finest rc + some other cards for a Shaquille O'neal Upper Deck RC card.. I believe the shaq was booked for around $60
And then.. I was happy until last year.. I've discovered the Nash card that nobody wanted was Soooo Hot... it was selling on eBay for around $200.. And for $200, 30x Shaq UD RC was easy...
So.. this is my worst trade ever. Spent $1000 to get a Nash 9697 autographics, and ended up with a Shaq UD RC.

Okay, according to the rules I posted, here are all the entrants who qualified:
fdgowin
bravesfan09
dherm360
Freeman13
raiderist
softballa04
mcgwirecollector
LJ#23KINGJAMES
wormcharmer
sgmco
tazmocan
keithmcm
sylcap
So ... now to pick the winner. After reading through these, there was clearly one entrant who took the time to describe the deal, how they thought about it at the time, and how it ended up working out long-term. Not to mention how the deal sort of paralled mine, so I felt like I knew exactly what he was talking about. With that - congratulations go out to mcgwirecollector.
As champion of the pain crew, you get to pick out four cards of your choice from the list in the original post.
Once he's done with that, everyone else who is listed in the eligible pool can pick out something from what is left as a thank-you for entertaining us with your misery Those will be first-come, first-server (kind of a bonus reward to keeping up with this and paying attention. Once mcgwirecollector has make his selections (post here), everyone else is eligible to make their selection. Post selections in this thread, and PM me your address.
Thanks to all who participated, I was very pleased with the solid turn-out for this contest!

WOW, thank you very much, YankeePride, thanks for having the contest.
My trade was an experience that I have learned alot from and hopefully others learned alot from their experiences as well.
Always listen to your conscience, even if the deal seems really good (for some of us, it's a bit too late), because, sometimes, it good just backfire.
As I read through the other participants trade woes, I really felt for them as well.
But overall, you have to take your trades at face value, no matter where the cards might turn out to be in the BV lands.
I would like to select these 4 cards:
2004 Topps Game-Used Bat Hank Bauer (KC A's)
04 topps rookie matrix michael curry auto (basketball)
05 sp authentic- jameer nelson rookie auto (redemption) (basketball)
06,Topps Bazooka,Bazooka Rewind,Terrmel Sledge,G/U Bat,#BR-TS
I will PM you my address.
Again, thank you and thanks to everyone who participated in a great contest.
