Upper Deck Awards Monthly Prizes for Yankee Stadium Legacy Collectors’ Entries
Herbert Hubschman of Wayne, New Jersey, wins April’s honor
North Las Vegas, NV (May 7, 2008) – Do you think you have the best collection of Upper Deck’s enormous Yankee Stadium Legacy insert cards? Are you the closest to completing the whole set, an entire decade or what about just a single season? With Upper Deck’s recently unveiled Yankee Stadium Legacy insert card collection, which chronicles every New Yank Yankee home game since the Stadium opened its doors in 1923, card collectors now have the opportunity to chase the entire 6,661-card set and get rewarded for their pursuit in the process.
Every month, Upper Deck will award one box of 2008 Upper Deck Series One Baseball cards and one very cool framed “Yankee Stadium Legacy” Giclees print of an original Stephen Gardner painting depicting the evolution of Yankee Stadium. The monthly winner will be named based on his creative, thought-provoking answers to five basic questions pertaining to the YSL set: 1.) Tell us about your collection; 2) How many unique YSL cards do you have; 3.) Are you working on a specific collection; 4.) How many cards do you need to finish; and 5.) What is unique about your collection?
Getting a jump-start on things, Upper Deck unveiled its contest online in April and received a couple of hundred entries by month’s end. After much discussion internally, it was determined that Herbert Hubschman of Wayne, New Jersey, would take home April’s top prize.
A self-proclaimed “die-hard Yankees fan,” Hubschman succinctly described his collection: “I have mostly baseball cards in my 300,000 card collection, which fill up an entire bedroom.” When answering question No. 2, he said: “About 150 total cards [out of 6,661] and two jersey legacy cards.” Is he working on acquiring a specific part of the collection? “Not really,” he wrote. “I am just trying to get the best cards for value to leave to my nephews.” As for how many cards he still needed to finish his collection, he didn’t mince words: “I need a lot of cards to finish, but I want to keep trying.” And finally, when asked to describe what’s unique about his YSL collection, he said: “Nothing is really unique, other than that I have the cards sorted by type.”
The process to enter the monthly contest(s) is easy. Go to
Yankee Stadium Legacy and click on the “Collector-of-the-Month” option on the top drop-down menu. Follow the step-by-step instructions and see if you have what it takes to convince Upper Deck’s internal judging committee that you are worthy of being named the Yankee Stadium Legacy “Collector of the Month.”
The
Yankee Stadium Legacy website is now fully functional and includes message boards where collectors can share their personal Yankee stories with fellow YSL card-collecting enthusiasts; a “Top Collectors” section which shows how many different unique users have registered their YSL cards online (4,437 to date); and finally, the comprehensive YSL Checklist, which shows all 6,661 game cards within the set as well as the seven “miscellaneous events” cards from Yankee Stadium’s glorious past that Upper Deck has included.
