Default Upper Deck Invites Collectors to Hit the ICE

Innovative and technology-driven cards take collectors closer to the game with the release of 2007-08 Upper Deck ICE Hockey

Carlsbad, CA (March 19, 2008) – Upper Deck has always taken considerable pride in being a trading card company that infuses innovation along with superior content to create products that collectors will love. Collectors are embracing the release of 2007-08 Upper Deck ICE Hockey because of Upper Deck’s ability to execute so well with these two core values in mind. The base set has a look where players seem to come alive on the ice because of an embossed design and background with actual marks on a surface that closely resembles the ice upon which these players make their living. The insert cards are also technology-driven as rookie, autograph and some memorabilia cards are printed on clear acetate, much like the ice surface of rinks after a pass from the Zamboni machine.

The content has been a key driver behind the early success of 2007-08 Upper Deck ICE Hockey with each 20-pack box containing an average of five acetate Ice Premieres rookie cards and three jersey, patch or autograph cards. The return of the “Glacial Graphs” autograph insert set is a welcome sign for collectors, as these cards are hard-signed on the clear acetate and have a look unlike any other autograph card in the market. “Signature Swatch” and “Frozen Foursomes” cards are also unique as the players sign on acetate over the actual game-used jersey swatch.

With hockey experiencing a tremendous year due to awesome rookie talent, collectors can look to find four different tiers of rookies within the set. With 126 total “Ice Premieres” cards included in 2007-08 Upper Deck ICE Hockey, rookie collectors will find a deep offering of this year’s talent. The top tier is numbered to just 99 total cards and is made up of some of the best players to hit the ice this year, including Jonathan Toews (Blackhawks), Sam Gagner (Oilers), Carey Price (Canadiens), Erik Johnson (Blues), Nicklas Backstrom (Capitals), Patrick Kane (Blackhawks) and Marc Staal (Rangers).

“When collectors open up 2007-08 Upper Deck ICE Hockey, they can all agree that the cards are just very different than other products in the market,” said Josh Zusman, Upper Deck’s Hockey brand manager. “The technology we used makes all of the cards really stand out. The regular set is great for set collectors to put together with just 100 cards, but many high-end set collectors and rookie collectors love the chase element that all these limited rookies provide.”

The 2007-08 Upper Deck ICE Hockey product has a suggested retail price of $4.99 per 5-card pack and is available in stores now.

Upper Deck puts out great products every year and this hockey product sure does look nice. Of course I like those inked cards but their designs on the cards are always top notch. Nice stuff once again from U.D.!!!
