Co-Sponsored Events at Hobby Shops in Playoff Cities Were Tremendously Successful
Carlsbad, CA – (October 31, 2007) – Upper Deck and Major League Baseball worked with hobby shops in playoff cities to run some very successful in-store events this October. Many shops had reached out to Upper Deck for some type of event so it made sense to put these together to thank fans and collectors for an extremely successful 2007. The events took place during the League Championship Series and for the World Series. Hobby shops were gifted with tickets to the game and several other prizes from Upper Deck and MLB.
Hobby shop owners in Colorado, Arizona, Ohio and New England all reported huge turnouts and high levels of excitement around the promotions. Collectors in attendance had ear to ear grins when opening Upper Deck packs and winning prizes at the shops. These in-store parties, coupled with the excitement of the playoffs, resulted in some profitable days for shop owners.
Jerry Wiselka of Jerry’s Sports Cards in Colorado said, “We ended up with the second best day in our 17 year history. We had over 400 people show up for these events and somehow I was invited to appear on the morning news. It was great publicity for the store.”
Mike Fruitman of Mike’s Stadium Sports Cards in Colorado shared, “The prizes were incredible and everyone, including the cash register, had an awesome night. The support of Upper Deck and Major League Baseball resulted in massive sales and a lot of happy collectors.”
Bruce Parker of New England Sports Cards in New Hampshire said, “The excitement that this night generates has been worth every penny in the time and effort it takes to pull this off. Upper Deck is the only manufacturer to do this promotion. It has helped my store sales grow tremendously.”
Additionally, right after the season, Upper Deck and Sports Images hosted a player appearance with New York Yankees pitcher, Kei Igawa at the Card Shack New York. The store packed in approximately 150 fans for the two hour event as collectors of all ages enjoyed this special opportunity to get up close and personal with a big league player.
“There is a lot of excitement in the trading card category around another Boston win, players breaking historic records and breakout performances from rookies this season,” shared Kerri Stockholm, Director of Marketing for Upper Deck. “We are completely dedicated to providing hobby shop owners and collectors with the best customer experience possible by creating the most innovative products and by offering the highest levels of support. With three highly anticipated Baseball releases still to come this year in Sweet Spot, Upper Deck Black and SP Authentic, collectors still have a lot to look forward to.”
