Default Upper Deck’s The Cup Hockey Returns for Second Season!

Bobby Orr and Mario Lemieux Autographs Added to the 2006/2007 Set

Carlsbad, CA – (July 24, 2007) – When Upper Deck released The Cup Hockey last year, it changed the way a lot of people think about Hockey cards and created some of the most limited, high-end trading cards in the hobby. Many of the individual cards from last year’s set routinely sell for more than $1000 in the secondary market. Carrying the momentum forward, Upper Deck is proud to announce The Cup Hockey will return again this year and collectors will have plenty to get excited about.

There will be several key drivers that have collectors very excited about this year’s release. Autographed Patch Rookies numbers to 99 will feature the best young talent in the game including Evgeni Malkin, Jordan Staal, Phil Kessel, Anze Kopitar, Alexander Radulov and Paul Stastny. Autographs of Bobby Orr and signed game used cards of Mario Lemieux will make their debut in The Cup. The popular “Property Of … ” insert returns, featuring the name of the player from their game used stick affixed to a one-of-a-kind card.

According to Upper Deck Hockey Project Manager Josh Zusman, new technologies used in the set will make an impact with collectors as well. “We have two new insert sets called Stanley Cup Signatures and Enshrinements, which are produced using black filler. They came out looking awesome and there really have not been cards produced like this before. Additionally, signed press plate cards, NHL shield patch cards and Legendary Cuts with players like Herb Brooks, King Clancy, Lester Patrick and Tim Horton should give collectors plenty of incentive to acquire these truly unique cards.”

2006/2007 The Cup Hockey is set to release July 26th and has a Suggested Retail Price of $350 per four card tin.
