Default Josh Hancock - Topps Makes Decision on Trading Card

TOPPS MAKES DECISION ON JOSH HANCOCK CARD

Last Wednesday, April 25th, the Topps Company issued its sales materials for its upcoming 2007 Topps Baseball Complete Sets. Included in the solicitation was an offer for a complete set packaged in a St. Louis Cardinals commemorative box. The special Cardinals box included an additional five exclusive cards not found in the regular 2007 Topps Series. And one of the five players was Pitcher Josh Hancock. It would be only his second Topps card ever and his first since 2005.

After this weekend’s very unfortunate event, Topps had an important question to answer…Do we leave the card as it is?

Topps felt that the proper thing to do was to pull Hancock’s card and change the format of the design. Topps has made changes to include the words “In Memoriam 1978-2007”.

The 2007 Topps Baseball Complete Set (St. Louis Cardinals Commemorative Box) ships the last week of July.

Default topps

without bashing me I'd like to play devils advocate on this without affending too many people. this is a horrific event that has now changed the lives of many people. my thoughts & prayers go out to those who this personally affected. However I don't think topps should commenorate this. Why is it when someone famous gets drunk, gets stupid, & gets dead they get honored. We have hancock, the video of david hasslehoff, and paris hilton Alcohol kills and destroys lives and the media and now topps has to promote it. millions of people die in alcohol related car accidents annually and the media could care less but when it happens to an athlete or someone famous the media jumps all over it. I don't get it.

I think Topps intent is to honor and remember the mans life-----not the bad decision that he made on that fateful morning.
