Default Welcome To Tr Contest

First off this is for anyone that is new here WITH a "ROOKIE MUST SEND FIRST" Avatar (If you have it for your trading practices, you do not apply).

The contest is very simple. Tell us WHY you decided to join our family (and please make it semi interesting LOL). Easy huh?. The prize? Well I have 3 autos sitting in front of me, so the top 3 picks from my wife and the mod staff here will each win one? BUT Im not saying what autos

I will run this until 1/31/03 11:59 PM and announce the winners shortly after. Good luck to all....

(PS: a reminder, if you try to join again under a new name, BOTH your accounts will be suspended...)

Default Why I Joined Trader Retreat?

Why I Joined Trader Retreat?

Being a collector with a primary interest in just one player (Emmitt Smith), I found it extremely difficult to find only Emmitt collectors that have cards to fill in the “need” gaps. This predicament forced me to acquire “trade bait’.

Originally, TR was only a trading site, which peaked my interest, as this avoids many of the so called “dealers” and people that believe they can retire on trading cards is beyond my comprehension. Card trading is still a hobby to me, which I wish I had more time to devote.

The Emmitt collection is for my son. When we first started, he was young and it showed him the importance of organization (which cards he has, which he needs and trade bait inventory). It also showed him the value of trust, as we needed to build feedback and trust with other collectors. He learned that you need to keep a promise in shipping cards as agreed upon in a timely manner.

With my activity at TR, not only has my son learned the above values, we also frequently trade with the same people (sort of making you feel like you know them) and of course, filled in many gaps of his extensive Emmitt collection (3500 different cards).

I have been collecting for years. Coming from a not so big place, only one card shop, it was hard to add to pc. Been on the net for a couple of years, never knowing about this or any other "trading" site, reliaing on winning E Bay auctions to bolster collection. Since finding TR, my collection has grown by leaps and bounds.TR even put me in contact with local collectors with in driving distances. A couple I seen on a regular basis, but never knew they collected. we now even get together at the local shop for a trade night about every 3-4 months. Alot of places have them every month, but like i said, one shop, we basically know what each of us are pulling all the time.
Tr has in a way also brang me and my son a bit closer. He is my step son, but have raised him as my own since he was 3 yrs old. He has seen me posting, and making trades and has asked what i was doing. I told him and he stated to me he wants too start collecting. I took him to the shop and he seen the wheel the owner has for $1 spins. You win a grab bag full of commons or a pack of cards. He played and won a Mike Vick Sweet Spot giant card.(Before the dog thing) and decided to start collecting Falcon cards along with WWE.Now he sits next to me looking through buckets for cards he likes, trying to trade my cards for them!!!!Now my two younger boys wanna get in on it.

Why I Joined Trader Retreat?

Well, I do not post all that often, but I love being a part of the TR family. I used to visit several different sites (sportscardfreaks, sportscardhaven, thecardboardvillage, tradingcardcentral, etc) but none of them compare to your site. I don't have the means to go out and purchase all of the products that I'd like, so I rely on your product reviews and box breaks to allow me to narrow my choices and get the most for my money. I find your product reviews to be very insightful and knowledgeable and a pleasure to read. Everybody that I have corresponded with here seem very friendly and eager to help. I have two daughters that I am trying to introduce into the hobby and I feel very safe sitting with them as we browse your website. Thanks again for all the really cool and interesting contests and for letting me be a part of your family.

I joined after hearing that this was a more popular trade site than one that I was a hall of fame member. The contests and general discussions made this unique compared with trade postings on aol.
