Of course he was the right pick for the MVP. In my opinion, next to Steve Nash of the Suns he is the most all around player in the league and makes his team better. The majority of the NBA audience would tend to disagree since the Mavs were eliminated from the playoffs so quickly, but players are chosen MVP for there regular season play. If they chose an MVP because of post season performances, Tom Brady would have been a 3-Time NFL MVP.

There is a reason why there are two separate MVPs for the season and finals. Based on regular season stats alone, Dirk was the right choice although I think he would prefer a ring Steve Nash is playing unbelievable ball right now but people forget so did Dirk during the regular season when the Mavs almost won 70 after a few straight losses to start the year. Dirk Nowitzki can take a bow!

dirk was good on a good mavs team, the suns couldn't ball without Nash.
Looking at the numbers and standings, Dirk deserves it. Looking at who's more valuable to the team, Nash, very clear.
IMO should have been Nash

I wanted Dirk to get the MVP because he deserves it this year. I was worried though when the mavs got eliminated so fast, and then nash was doing so good.. but then doing good in playoffs should be clowned for playoffs mvp..
therefore, it is the right decision for MVP this year!
a big Congrats to Dirk!

I'll have to disagree with the choice of Dirk for MVP. To me Steve Nash deserved it again. I think the voters had a problem making Steve Nash the first 3-time consecutive MVP and thus Dirk won the award. The Suns owe everything they do to Nash. They simply aren't the same team without him. The Mavs are still very good without Dirk as Josh Howard, Jason Terry, or Jerry Stackhouse can step up and get those extra points. Nobody can provide what Nash does and that's what makes him the most valuable.

Last time I check they dont call it the RSMVP (regular season Most Valuable Player), with that being said, the wrong choice was made. Dirk should not have won the award because he did not have the best season of anyone from start to finish. Unless someone that didnt make the playoffs scored like 35-40 a game, not gonna happen anyway soon, they should be able to sustain their performance or even upgrade their performance in the postseason!

First you have to consider the timing of the award. the voting takes place immediately after the end of the season. that is deliberate. The plauyoffs have their own MVP. In recent years voters take the record of the player's teams very strongly into account. Years ago Tiny Archibald won the MVP on a losing team, in a season in which he led the NBA in scoring and assists. That would not happen today. Dirk's team dominated the regular season. 65 wins. He was the best player on the best team. The Mavericks indeed have other good players, but Dirk was MVP plain and simple. If the award was for best player, or guy his team couldn't do without, it would have gone to Kobe Bryant.

First off, I just want to say I am a huge Kobe Bryant fan and think Dirk Nowitzki cries everytime he is touched on the court. But, I do believe Dirk was the right choice for MVP. The only other person would have been Nash for getting it.
Dirk averaged 24.6 ppg while Nash averaged 18.6 ppg. I believe Nash's assists and Dirks rebounding cross cancel each other and both shoot amazing %'s.
Mavericks finished with a 67-15 record (only 5 teams in NBA history have won more in a regular season!!). Not to mention, Mavericks play in the same division as the Spurs and the Rockets and finished with a 14-2 division record.
The Suns finished with a 61-21 record where the next best teams were the Lakers and Warriors and had a 11-5 division record.
I believe Dirk deserves to be the first European to win MVP because the Mavericks do not have any real superstars besides him yet, Josh Howard will be and Terry is pretty good yet they were the most dominate team in the NBA and finished with a great record.
Nash had superstars in Amare and Marion but they still finished with more losses in an even worse division.
So, that is my two cents on why Dirk deserves his MVP trophy. But I still don't care for him. lol

Dirk MVP was the right choice.
He is the guy that made 67 wins happen, Nash is on the same level but his supporting cast is way better than Dirk´s. Still they "only" managed 61 wins (second best in the league).
