So my question to you is...Deal or No Deal??
Starting this Monday the new hit TV Game Show comes to TR. Yes that's right...we will be playing the TR version of Deal or No Deal. If you haven't seen this game show I will explain the concept.
There are 25 briefcases (numbered 1-25) and in each case is a dollar amount starting at .01 cent up to 1 million dollars. A contestant has to pick a case number and that case is opened. Whatever dollar amount is in the case is pulled off the board. After each round of opening cases the banker will make an offer for the contestants case which he picks at the start of the game. The banker comes up with his offer based on the dollar amounts left on the board. If most of the board is high dollar amounts, the banker's offer will be high because he's scared the contestant has a high dollar case. If most of the board is low dollar amounts (.01 cent, $1, $5 and so on), the banker's offer will be extremely lower because he already knows that the high dollar amounts have been eliminated.
If you've seen the show then you know how to play. If not I hope I explained the concept. Now the fun part is taking this concept and creating our own version using cards. More details to come as I work them out. The first contestant for our version will come from anyone that replies to this thread saying they want to play. You will need to be active daily to play. Check back for updates as I sort them out.
Bryan
Edit 1:
Here is what I have worked out so far. Adjustments will be made as we go. I expect to tweak this a bit for the second contestant but want to see how smooth it runs for the first time.
- There will be 20 different cards starting at .50 cents and going up to $100 BV. We will go by BV, not SV for this. The scale/board will go like this.
$1
$2
$2
$3
$4
$5
$6
$8
$10
$12
$15
$20
$25
$30
$40
$50
$50
$60
$80
$100
- Each card will have it's own number and everyone will know what the cards are in advance but won't know what number is assigned to each. Now being the banker I have to find a way to make this fair because I can't know what number is attached to each card. That's where my wife comes in. After I select the 20 cards she will put them into a security envelope that will have a number on the outside. This way I won't know what card is in what envelope.
- When we start the game I will list all 20 cards. The contestant will pick one number/envelope and that is his "briefcase" so to speak. As each card is revealed by the contestant I will delete that card off the list.
- I will make an offer for your envelope based on what has been eliminated. At that point you'll have a choice...deal or no deal. If you say deal you take my offer. If you say no deal we continue and you'll have to pick more numbers/envelopes until the next offer. At some point you will walk away a winner. It could be a $100 card or it could be a $.50 cent card or a card from my offer.
- Again I need to stress that I won't know what cards go to what number. That would ruin this game and make it no fun for me.
- As for those members that aren't playing you are still vital. You become the buddy system and can offer advice to the member that is playing. The more you're active, the better chance you'll have of getting picked to play next.
- I'm gonna try to do this 4 times a month. I figure once per week should be good.
- The contestant will have 24 hours to make each number pick and think about a deal or no deal. Of course you don't have to take that much time and if you're on the same time as I am then we can speed through this and play another round. If not then that's where the 24 hour limit comes in.
I know this may look confusing but I think once we get the hang of it, it should be a lot of fun. Anyone can play...you just need to be active to get picked. Selections will be completely random for this but I'll tell you in advance that those who are more active will get first shot. I'm hoping this catches on like the Big Game contest and we'll run it for a few months. Keep checking back for more updates and please ask any questions you want about it.
Edit 2:
- Before you start picking envelopes to open, you pick an envelope that is yours throughout the game. No one knows what's inside of your envelope until you eliminate all the other envelopes or you take the banker's offer.
- First round you'll need to open 5 envelopes and then I'll make my first offer. If you decline the offer then you'll need to open 4 more envelopes before my next offer. We continue this way until the end.
Edit 3:
- I've made a couple changes to the scale. I've taken out the .50 cent level and the $75 level. In getting prepared for this contest I've noticed that I'm pretty short on $75 cards. They either book $60 or $80. Because I took out a high number I also took out a low number to make it fair. Then I decided that having 20 levels would be easier so I added another $2 level and another $50 level. That way we have 20 levels again.

Sounds like an AWESOME idea Bryan! I love that show!
Just for clarity sake, I believe you forgot to add this to the rules: Before you start picking cases to open, you pick a case that is "yours." No one knows what's inside of your case until you eliminate all the other cases or you take the dealer's $$.
It might be written somewhere, but I didn't see it. BTW, are you going to follow the same rules as the show, ie. First round, open 6 cases, then 5 cases, and so on and so forth?

Thanks for the clarification Stan. I'll add that up there. I'm sure there's some stuff I forgot.
Since we're starting with 20 cards I think I'll go 5, then 4, then 3, and so on.
