The Toughest Set To Collect in the History of Hockey Card Collecting

Enforcers box highlights include:

Enforcers might be the toughest hockey card set to collect in the history of hockey trading cards.

Where else will you find player after player who distinguished themselves for their toughness and their selfless role in protecting their teammates.

The image above has been created using mock-ups of the Tough Nameplates cards that will be found in the product. These are letters cut from the nameplates of game-worn jerseys of the Enforcers. Each card is a 1/1.

Another new addition to Enforcers are the Tough Patch 1/1 cards. Large pieces of patches from game-used jerseys from many of the players in this product.

Each pack of Enforcers will contain five authentic autographs. There will be over 80 different Enforcers on the authentic autograph checklist including; Dave Semenko, Joey Kocur, Dave Manson, Basil McRae, Rob Ray, Marty McSorley, Brad May, Jim Kyte, Georges Laraque, Chris Nilan, and many, many more.

Each pack of Enforcers will contain two authentic game-used memorabilia cards. There are several different insert sets; Instigators, Dual Combatants, Quad Tough Franchise, Fight Straps, 1/1 Fight Strap Dome Fastener cards, 1/1 Enforcer Nameplates. The checklist includes Stu Grimson, Wendel Clark, Kelly Chase, Enrico Ciccone, Lyle Odelein, Gino Odjik, Jeff Odgers, Terry O’Reilly, Bob Nystrom, Clark Gilles and many, many more.

Each pack of Enforcers will contain five Base Cards. There will be four different subsets; Tale of the Tape, Record Holders, Bloody Battles and Tough Franchises in the 90 card Base card checklist.

Here's what I pulled in our box of 2011/12 In The Game Enforcers:

Non-Memorabilia Base cards;

In our box we pulled cards from all four different subsets; Tale of the Tape, Record Holders, Bloody Battles and Tough Franchises in the 90 card Base set. The base set resembles an insert set more than that of a traditional base set. The Bloody Battles have a cartoon type appeal to them which feature in battle portraits. Tale of the Tape cards highlight an epic battle between Enforcers and the date is recorded on the front of card. The Record Holders set is designed to pay tribute to the individual records that have been set by various Enforcers over the years. The final set, my personal favorite is the Tough Franchises. These cards pay a long overdue tribute to the core of Enforcers that defined the toughness of their respective franchises.

Authentic Memorabilia Cards;

Our Relic pulls come from the Instigators and Dual Combatants subsets. In The Game does a great job with the Relics in all releases and Enforcers is no exception. Both of our pulls feature multi-colored patches. As shown below the Lyle Odelein Instigators features a nice mix of red and black material. The dual Combatants feature a multi-colored swatch from Wade Belak’s jersey and a nice solid piece from Donald Brashear’s.

Autographs;

Our five autograph pulls feature autographs of Stan Jonathan, Jay Wells, Paul Laus, Dan Maloney and Bill “Goldie” Goldthorpe. The Enforcer Autographs feature an artistic rough finish with blood spots to accentuate the finish. The autograph is located on bottom of the card and is slanted with a band aid design. The overall appearance of the autograph set is very appealing and the blood splatter and band aid stickers are the perfect touch to highlight Enforcers theme.

Final Thoughts on 2011/12 In The Game Canada Enforcers Hobby Box;

In The Game bills Enforcers as “The Toughest Set To Collect in the History of Hockey Card Collecting” and I’d have to agree. With five base cards per pack it will be a difficult set to build. That being said In The Game comes up a great new concept to excite Hockey collectors and provides a trip down memory lane. Enforcers have always been a large part of hockey lore and In The Game provides a fitting tribute to some of the greatest characters and tough guys to ever lace up skates. Priced at a modest $60 - $70 on-line In The Game scores a knock out with this legendary release.

The four sets that make up the main set all offer something different sure to appeal to many hockey collectors. In The Game continues to produce high quality patch relic cards and this release in no exception. Combine that with five guaranteed autographs and you have a can’t miss new product. As you may have noticed in the video review the autographs appeared to be of the on card variety. After further examination I noticed the band aid stickers that really add a nice touch to the autograph set.

It’s nice to see a set that pays tribute to the players that kept the ice level in the days of old time hockey. Who needs rookies and European superstars when you have the likes of Bill “Goldie” Goldthorpe? Goldie was the real life inspiration of the cult film Slap Shot’s Ogie Oglethorpe. While Goldie never played in the NHL he did rack up 1,132 penalty minutes in just 194 professional games and is still widely considered to be one of the meanest, craziest players to have ever played the game.

Here's how I would rate this product;
  • Value = 5
  • Innovation = 5
  • Fun and Experience = 5
  • Rebuy Value = 4.5

I rate this product a solid " A " for In the Game!

Very nice review. It seems an exciting and unique product. That would be difficult to put a set together but probably fun to try. It is nice that you get as many hits as you do. Solid product.
