Here's what we pulled in our box of 2010-11 ITG Heroes and Prospects Hockey.
Since the 2004-05 season, ITG Heroes and Prospects has become a hobby favorite. The design is a little different from last year and I really like the border around the cards in this release. Not just another boring white border either, but spiced up with one of the colors of the team. The back has the stats from previous year along with a short biography on the top.
There are several sets in the base set including Heroes, International Prospects, CHL Prospects, CHL Rookies, AHL Prospects and AHL Rookies.
This is how collation should be on every box you buy. We only missed on (13) cards from completing the entire base set of (150). And, we didn't pull any duplicates either. This is a
92% completion ratio of the 150 card base set from one box. Almost unheard of nowadays. This is the same within 1% of last years box. Other makers please take notice at how this is done. This is what set builders are looking for in every product.
This year there are 100 cards in the Non-Memorabilia insert sets to collect this year. Calder Cup Winner, Memorial Cup Winner, Class of 2011 (Redemption for game-used memorabilia cards of first round draft picks), 75th Anniversary of the AHL and 100 Years of Card Collecting are the different insert sets.

He Shoots, He Scores Decoy / Redemption Card Program is back again for 2010-11. For every pack of hockey cards that does not have a memorabilia card inside an extra thick redemption decoy card, valued at one point, will be inserted. Once 200 points are accumulated hockey card collectors can redeem them for unique and limited edition memorabilia hockey cards. So, it looks like the same rules apply as last year.
For me, too many subsets to complete with only getting 1 or none in every category.
Rookie Cards;

Rookie cards; you want rookies, then you came to the right place. We pulled 23 rookie cards from this box. That's a rate of over 1 per pack! The rookies are easy to spot as they all have the same (goldish) colored border and state rookie on the bottom left of the action shot of the player. Same design as the rest of the base and I like it. On the back they list last years stats.
Game-Used Cards;

This season, look for the SUBWAY SUPER SERIES and Top Prospects Game memorabilia. Each SUBWAY SUPER SERIES game-used memorabilia card comes with Black, Silver or Gold foil stamping.
We pulled a fantastic looking Heroes and Prospects Subway Super Series - Black Jumbo card of Xavier Ouellet. This is a nice high-quality swatch. I would have liked to have seen numbering on these, as I think it would have really been a better set with numbering. There are 100 of these made of 35 different players according to the ITG website . Next up is the Top Prospects Game Jumbo Jersey Gold of Nino Niederreiter. Fantastic piece of jersey with 3 colors and a nice stitched seam running horizontally right above the purple. Again according to ITG there are 10 of these made of 26 different players.
This is what game used memorabilia should be in every sport. Not single colored swatches! Bring us the multi-colored large jersey pieces and the collectors will buy.
Autographed Cards;

Getting your favorite player’s signature is a thrill for many collectors. In The Game brings this excitement home with its Autograph collection in 2010-11 Heroes and Prospects. We pulled autographs in this break of Matt Halischuk and Robin Gusse. Both autographs are superb in condition and without bubbling or breaks. They look to be on card at first glance, they are stickers, but they don't detract from the card in general as then blend in well. I think the autographs could be a little more legible, but nowadays, this is becoming the norm.
Final Thoughts on 2010-11 ITG Heroes and Prospects Hockey;
2010-11 ITG Heroes and Prospects has blown me away again. First you get (4) hits in the box guaranteed, and then you almost get a complete set too (92% completion).
All of the premium cards are high-quality in my book. The patches are always phenominal and mostly low produced. The autographed cards as stated above are great in design (similar to 2009-10), but that's a good thing here. I would have liked the two jersey cards to be numbered. There aren't a lot of inserts pulled from one box, making it hard to complete a set without help on a trading site. This is a hot product right now, so the prices aren't that different online or in the LCS. These boxes can usually be had for between $74 and $85 on most sites that I have checked. The $74 was from a dealer / LCS and was lower priced than online.
Here's how I would rate this product;
- Value = 5
- Innovation = 5
- Fun and Experience = 5
- Rebuy Value = 5
I rate this product an "A+" for ITG!
