Here's what I pulled in our box of 2010/11 Panini Certified Hockey:
Base Cards and Parallels;
This set includes 170 cards; a 150 card regular set, and then a 20 card Immortals subset. The design at the bottom of the card involves a few layers, which includes foil at the sides, grey at the bottom corners, and white in the middle. A black bar crosses the middle, and includes the player’s name; the team name is located below. The Certified logo is centered at the top, and it is behind the players’ pictures. I like how the design maximizes the space for the player’s photograph.
We also pulled a Mirror Red parallel of Henrik Sedin, which is serially numbered out of 250. These Mirror parallels have a rainbow foil, and the bottom left/right say “Mirror” and the color is changed from the base’s grey to whichever color the mirror version is (so, the Sedin card has red).
We also pulled a Mirror Blue parallel of Mario Lemieux from the Immortals subset. It looks like the only difference between the main set and the Immortals subset, is that the background is black and white, and, of course, it says “Immortals” at the top left and top right. This Mirror Blue parallel card is serially numbered out of 100.
Inserts and Insert Parallels;
We pulled 4 non-memorabilia inserts from a few of the sets, along with parallel versions. Since we pulled a regular, along with a parallel version of the Certified Champions insert, we can see that the grey is once again replaced with the mirror color. All of the cards’ backs feature colors which relate to the player’s team colors. The 2 regular inserts we pulled were:
• (1) Certified Champions #/500: Patrick Roy
• (1) Masked Marvels #/500: Michal Neuvirth
The 2 parallel inserts we pulled were:
• (1) Certified Champions Mirror Blue #/100: Dan Boyle
• (1) Certified Potential Mirror Blue #/100: Philip Larsen
The Certified Champions cards focus on Stanley Cup winners. The set’s logo features a Stanley Cup trophy. The card states what year the player was a Stanley Cup Champion (1992-93 for Patrick Roy, and 2003-04 for Dan Boyle). Both of the cards we pulled feature the player hoisting the cup above their heads. In addition, underneath the set logo, is another smaller, and black and white, picture of the player in-action.
The certified Potential set is a horizontally oriented set. The Certified logo is in the foreground, followed by the player’s picture. The background at the left shows more of the photograph that was used, while the right shows the player’s team logo. The background is split by diagonal bars.
The final insert we pulled is Masked Marvels. It is hard to see in the scan, but the logo is pretty neat: it has an old-school hockey mask and 2 rotated M’s (for Masked Marvels) radiating out from the mask. This is placed into an object that looks like a banner. In addition to the neat logo, I like the clean design, and the aerial photograph that is used at the bottom. The picture at the top is a close-up of the goalie; probably to showcase his mask.
Autograph;
There is 1 autograph per box. In our box, the autograph we pulled was:
• (1) Freshman Signatures #/1299: Philip Larsen
This card set looks like another subset of the base set, because the card back is the same as the base, and the card is card number 173. There are similarities to the regular base card; the bottom design is basically the same, but where the player’s name was, it now says “Freshman Signatures”, and the team name is replaced with the player’s position. The player’s name is now at the top left, and his team is at the top right. In the center, there is a new design, and this included the white area for the on-card autograph!
Game Used Memorabilia;

We ended up pulling 2 material cards from the same set:
• (2) Fabric of the Game #/250: Milan Lucic & Jonathan Toews
The Fabric of the Game inserts have been around for many years now, and is always a fun insert set to collect. The design on these cards are very cool looking; resembling hockey gear. This background has colors which relates to the player’s team colors, and features laces, straps, stitching, jersey patterns, and mesh patterns. This design works extremely well for a memorabilia set!
Autographed Game Used Memorabilia;

We pulled a redemption card:
• (1) Freshman Fabric Signatures #/499: TBD
This card set looks like another subset of the base set, because the card is card number 196. Therefore, I’m assuming the design will be similar to the Freshman Signatures, but there will be a jersey swatch(es?) on it as well. The card says “Congratulations! You’ve just become the envy of your friends by scoring a redemption good for a jersey/autograph RC of one of the season’s hottest freshmen!” This is probably the best/funniest write-up I’ve ever read on a redemption card. The player has yet to be released on Panini’s website (I’ve seen some auctions saying it is Ryan McDonagh), but the checklist on
Panini America says it is sequentially numbered out of 499.
Final Thoughts on 2010/11 Panini Certified Hockey;
First off, I was pumped to pull a Patrick Roy (my all-time fave) insert card. I love that Certified incorporates these “Immortals” into the base subset, along with in the inserts.
The hits just kept coming with this break. Even though not every pack had an insert, some packs did have two, so we ended up with 10 (average of 1 insert per pack)!
I really liked the design on many of the cards, especially the jersey cards.
Here's how I would rate this product;
