Richard Pryor,--- one of the great influences on many of our comedians today, would have to get my vote.
Just watching the guy, you could tell he enjoyed his work, and his act came very natural.

I'd have to say George Carlin. He's been consistantly funny for decades. Chris Rock was excellent too, only as a stand-up though. Right now, I think the best comedian working is Jim Gaffigan. His Beyond the Pale special was one of the funniest I've ever seen.

Rowan Atkinson was hilarious in his stand up days. Although I'm not really up to date on the current stand up comedians, I do like Pablo Francisco and Hans Teeuwen. The last one's from Holland.

Greatest? I'm not sure.
My favorite? Lewis Black, hands down.

Richard Pryor is undoubtedly the greatest.
However, Eddie Murphy is by far and away my favorite. I've watched Delirious and Raw at least 20 times a piece and it's still absolutely hilarious.

Not sure about the greatest but I'd think Bill Cosby would be up there. My favorite is Harland Williams.
