Well seeing as this seems to be out of date, Ive decided to redo the tips. If you have any question NOT listed here, just ask.
Tip #1 : I know alot of people like guys such as Derek Jeter, Barry Bonds, and other big named players from all sports. Thats great but I suggest you dont bother sending to them unless you want to waste stamps and time. These guy don't sign TTM. If you do get something back, 99.9% of the time the auto is a preprint.
Tip #2 : ALWAYS.... let me say it again... ALWAYS send a SASE (Self Addressed Stamped Envelope). I know some people who didnt, and then they complain they didnt get any back. Well DUH!!!!! Why should the player have to pay for postage to send his auto back to you????
Tip #3 : Dont be greedy. I know sometimes you see me getting back 10 cards at a time. Thats for one of 2 reasons (either I sent 2 requests by accident, or its a player who doesnt do anything in the sports profession anymore. Also Dont sell the autos you get in. I know several people and have seen several people on ebay who get ttm autos just to make a few bucks. Then those same people wonder why the players stop signing. If youre going to do this, do it because you want to start a collection and have fun with it, dont do it for money.
Tip #4 : As for the letter you send. Some people say dont send a "fourm letter" (the same letter to each player). Well if youre sending to only a few players you collect, then dont. However if you are like me (who sends out 100+ a month) then I really dont see why you cant. And dont be nervous about writing the letter. These stars are just like you. Dont use or say anything fancy. Just something simple like I use works. Look below :
Dear Mr XXXXX,
I was wondering if you could please sign the enclosed card(s) for me? I collect autographs of current/retired sports stars, and I'd like to add these to my collection. If possible, can you please personalize it to me?
Thanks & God bless
Butch
(PS : Enclose is a Bible tract for you. I pray the verses in it can be a blessing.)
Plain, simple & straight to the point.
Tip #5 : Send a card or cards you can lose. Sometimes these guys end up losing them, or they get lost in the mail. Also remmeber, some players collect thier own stuff (like John Kruk). Some players even like it if you send more then one card and you tell them to sign one and keep the rest.
Well my brain is sore from all this thinking

. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
