Here's what we pulled in our box of 2010 Topps Supreme Football.
Base Cards

Before getting into the cards, let me just say that Topps has spared no expense on the packaging of Supreme. The 1 pack comes in a thick hinged cardboard box that couls easily be turned around and used as a gift box that anyone would be happy to receive. Call me a dork, but its little things like this that enhance the break and really make you feel like you're ripping something exclusive.
But, I digress...after showering us with "chrome'd" cards early in the season, Topps took a step back with Triple Threads and gave us very nice thick cards that were neither chrome or glossy. Just fantastic acton shots presented the way cards used to be. Well, they've stuck with that concept, that I like so much, but went glossy with Supreme and removed the background. Once again, each card is on a thick card stock and features amazingly clear action shots. This time around, however, the cards are put on the "Supreme" background, with any other players removed. The 2 base cards, each #'d to 209, are of legends LaDainian Tomlinson and Emmitt Smith. Each card features career stats on the back as well as some information specific to each player. When I speak of the fantastic photography, it's very much on display on this Emmitt Smith card. Rarely does a football card get you a shot that allows you to look right into a player's eyes as he runs the football.
Parallel Cards

The one parallel we received is a Troy Polamalu Blue Parallel #'d to 62. Now, all the research I did seem to suggest that the parallels were #'d off to typical #s like 199, 99, 50, etc. And here we have a card #'d to 62. Once again, and I'm not sure if my scan reveals it or not, but you can look into Polamalu's eyes on this card and you can see that someone is getting ready to be lit up on the field. The gold background meshes nicely with both the red of the base cards and the blue on the Polamalu to make each card look exclusive.
Autographed Relic Card

We got pretty lucky with our pack hit. As you can see, we landed a Jimmy Clausen Dual Relic autograph. Considering each pack is only guaranteed a relic card as a hit, pulling an auto is a plus. The fact that we pulled a rookie auto is fantastic. What you can see in the scan is that this is a sweet looking card with a clear (but slightly off-centered) sticker autograph and 2 black jersey swatches. What you can't see in the scan is the detail and dimensions in the card. The auto and swatches are both set back in the card, giving it a kind of 3-d feel to it. Also, the gold around the swatches is also raised off the card to give the card even more texture. All of these little touches give Supreme a feeling of quality that is not necessarily present in other cards. I guess you could say, it's what separates Supreme as a premium high-end product as opposed to a quality mid to low-end product.
Final Thoughts on 2010 Topps Supreme Football
These boxes can usually be had for between $90 and $100 on most sites that I have checked. $90 for one pack of 4 cards is something I could never ever afford to do. But I certainly understand the thrill of doing it. There are some crazy cards in Supreme, including 8-auto cards featuring Namath, Elway, Marino, Young, Brown, Dorsett, Smith and Allen. I mean, imagine pulling that bad-boy out of a pack!! The knock on Supreme is that it's kind of a feast or famine product. You get 1 hit per box. That one hit could be the aforementioned 8-auto card. It could be a Jimmy Clausen Dual Relic auto. Or it could be simply a triple or quad relic of a minor player. When dealing with a "1-hit per" product like this, it would almost behoove you to go ahead and go crazy and pick up a full case. The stats when breaking a case guarantee you 16 hits including a multi-auto and a couple rookie autos. As you can see from the stats above, 8 of the 16 boxes will feature only a relic. So, when you pick up a single box, you're looking at a 50-50 shot of getting the lower end hit. So, for a product like Supreme, I say go big and get a case, or you might want to pick and choose the cards you pick up. I will say this though, if you're a player collector or team collector, these cards are too nice to NOT have in your collection.
Here's how I would rate this product, based on what we experienced during our break
- Value = 4
- Innovation = 5
- Fun and Experience = 5
- Rebuy Value = 4
I rate this product a "B+" for Topps! Based on our specific break and the hit we received, this is more like an A-. However, I realize that not everyone will be pulling a nice rookie auto out of their box. $90 is quite a bit of coin to drop for 4 total cards, no matter how beautiful they are. For the high end guys, this is a must set, but again, don't cheap out and just buy a box or 2. Get the whole case! There's no other way to say it.
