Here's what I pulled in our box of 2010 Topps Attax Football Card Game:
Base Cards;

The base set is also a card game, and from this, there are no card numbers. To determine how many different cards I pulled, I put them alphabetically by last name, and we pulled 176 base cards (plus 4 duplicates). This will be fun for set collectors.
The design is pretty simple and straightforward. The 2 focal points are the player’s photo and the area with the numbers. The player’s photo has a thin white stroke line around him, and a drop shadow, to make him stick out from the background. The background is a monotone of one of the player’s team colors. There is a faint overlay of an “X” shape, which I think represents the “x” in Attax. This monotone background fades to the white background. The top left of each card has the player’s name and position, while the top right of each card shows the logo of that player’s team.
At the bottom of each card is the actual game. There are three circles with a number inside, and they are shaded left-to right as blue, red, and green. Underneath these circles is a placeholder that has stars inside; this is the player’s overall ranking, from 3 stars up to 5 stars.
The circles are titled differently for the different players:
• Defenders: Blue - Tackle/Turnover; Red- Tackle/Turnover; Green - Tackle/Turnover
• Quarterbacks / Wide Receivers: Blue – Hitch; Red – Slant; Green – Post
• Running Backs: Blue – Left; Red – Middle; Green – Right
Code Cards;

The code cards are the exact same design as the base cards, but they have an 8-digit code imprinted above the game area. Underneath the code, it says:
CODE UNLOCKS FREE DIGITAL CARDS AT ToppsTown.com
CODE EXPIRES 06/30/2011.
REDEMPTION CODES CAN BE USED ONE TIME ONLY.
The codes were of 4- and 5-star players. The code cards we pulled were:
• (18) Code Cards: Oshiomogho Atogwe, Drew Brees, Dwight Freeney, Maurice Jones-Drew, DeSean Jackson, Andre Johnson, Ray Lewis, Peyton Manning, Brandon Marshall, Jerod Mayo, Troy Polamalu, Darrell Revis, Ray Rice, Philip Rivers, Michael Turner, Jonathan Vilma, Demarcus Ware, & D.J. Williams
Foil Cards;
The foil cards also have the exact same design as the base set, but instead of white, they are a platinum foil. There are two levels of the foil parallel. Some foil parallels say “RED ZONE” on the right-hand side, and the background’s monotone color is Red instead of the player’s team color. The other parallels say “SUPERSTAR” on the right-hand side, and the background’s monotone color is Black instead of the player’s team color. The foil cards we pulled were:
• (12) Red Zone: Lance Briggs, Ronnie Brown, Marques Colston, Shonn Greene, David Harris, DeSeasn Jackson, Jerod Mayo, Rashard Mendenhall, Sidney Rice, Philip Rivers, Aqib Talib, & Michael Turner
• (6) Superstar: Maurice Jones-Drew, Ed Reed, Aaron Rogers, Asante Samuel, Matt Schaub, & DeMarcus Ware
Rules Card;
Located in every couple of packs was the rules card that explained how to play this game. The game is in 8 easy to follow steps, and there is a Scoring Chart at the end. We pulled 9 rules cards.
Final Thoughts on 2010 Topps Attax Football Card Game;
One of my favorite parts of busting these packs was that there is a great line-up of players in this set. I like the fact that even though this is a card game; it is also trading cards with various levels of parallel sets.
One complaint I have is that the rules are found in every 4 packs. I know each player needs 16 cards, so chances are they would have pulled a rules card to get enough for a team, but I still think these should be found 1:1 pack or 1:2 packs. If I had gone to the store and just bought 1 pack, and there was no rule sheet; I don’t think I would have gone out and bought any more packs, for I would not know where to find the rules. I would have been lost.
In conclusion, this is a large set with a lot of players, and with the various levels of parallels, it should be fun for the set collector. In addition, the actual card game looks like a fun way to attract kids into collecting cards. It seems like an easy game that anyone can learn, and I’m about to go play it and have some fun with these trading cards!
