Here's what we pulled in our box of 2009 Playoff Contenders Football.
Base and Insert Cards;

The 2009 Playoff Contenders Football logo is in the upper left hand corner of the cards, very similar to the design of 2003 playoff Contenders. But, unlike the 2003 design this one gives you a better view of the rookie players with the clear stickers. The front design of the 2009 version really has the 2003 version beat as far as overall presentation. It includes all of the same information, plus more and also has more flash to it. The back of the card has all of the perinent information regarding a short bio. The same photo is on the back as is on the front.
The inserts and parallels we pulled are;
- (1) Playoff Ticket - Andre Johnson /99
- (2) Legendary Contenders - Gale Sayers, John Stallworth
- (1) Legendary Contenders Gold - Tiki Barber /100
Rookie Inserts and Rookie Autographs;

The rookie inserts we pulled are of some of the great rookie class of 2009. Here are the results of the rookie inserts we pulled;
- (1) Rookie of the Year Contenders - Matthew Stafford
- (2) Rookie Roll Call - Vontae Davis - Mark Sanchez
- (4) Round Numbers - Sanchez / Heyward-Bey, Jackson / Curry, Robiskie / Laurinaitis, Wallace / Barden
- (4) Draft Class - Mauluga / Coffman, Nelson / Maybin, Robiskie / Massaquoi, Jenkins / Hill
The autographed rookies we pulled are some very nicely autographed cards that are all completely on sticker. Same as the base cards in general, except for saying rookie ticket instead of the base season ticket. We pulled (6) autographs in our box compared to the (4) guaranteed autographs. A little disappointed on not getting the (1) oncard autograph as the odds state per box. We didn't pull any SPs in our box either.
Final Thoughts on 2009 Playoff Contenders Football;
Playoff Contenders are a hit every year and it doesn't matter which release of sport it is. I really do like the new design this year. This box was above expectations as far as guaranteed pulls, because we pulled (6) autographed rookies, instead of the (4) guaranteed autographs in the odds per box. Yes we didn't pull any big names Or Short printed cards from the 2009 rookie class, but the Laurinaitis and the Painter do have some possibilities. All of the autographed cards are nice high quality autos with no bubbling or separation of any sort.
These boxes can usually be had for between $81 (lowest price I have seen) and $139 on most sites that I have checked. The low end is a very sweet value for the box.
Here's how I would rate this product;
- Value = 5
- Innovation = 5
- Fun and Experience = 5
- Rebuy Value = 4
I rate this product an "A" for Panini!
