Rookies and patches and autos, oh my! It is time once again for one of the most anticipated Upper Deck sets of the year to arrive with SP Authentic hitting the shelves. In its 8th season of the famous patch rookies, SP Authentic is back with this year’s rookie class and has collectors scattering to pick up those beautiful cards.

Set Features:

Each sealed box contains 24 packs of 5 cards each in a 200 card set including 100 Rookies (#`d to 1399 or 999). >>> Each box contains TWO Autograph cards and ONE Autograph Memorabilia card. Here's what was included in the 2008 SP Authentic Football Break:

Base Cards:

The base set is a glossy white background with an action shot of each player and a splash of the player’s team colors. Each card front also features the famous SP Authentic logo as well as the players name and information. SP Authentic is always one of my favorite looking base sets. The cards just look so sharp with their design.

Rookie Cards:

The rookie cards follow the set design, with the term "Rookie" depicted on the front and are sequentially numbered to 1399. The rookies we pull from this set were: Terrell Thomas, Andy Studebaker, and Will Franklin.

Autograph Rookie:

The autographs we pulled are of Kenny Phillips, S for the New York Giants and Bruce Davis, LB for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The autographs are on card which is a major upside for this product.

Leatherhead:

Instead of getting a patch rookie auto or By the Letter, we received the Leatherhead of Tampa Bay Bucaneers WR Dexter Jackson. The card is a throwback to yesteryear as the cards feature a piece of an old leather helmet the featured player wore during the Rookie Photo Shoot.

Final Thoughts on 2008 SP Authentic Football:

Once again, Upper Deck comes out with a wonderful looking and fun to bust product. The base set is beautiful, the rookies are a wide array of players, and the autos and event used are on par with what was shown in previews of this product. The Leatherheads cards are innovative and an neat addition to the set, but while spending $100+ on the product, it is disappointing to not pull the patch rookie auto. All in all, it was a fun break and I look forward to opening more in the future.
