I can understand both moves. Can Sproles handle the load and is McCoy ready?

Neither team likes to run the ball that much and both players had large contracts. I think McCoy can handle the load but not sure what SD will do if they lose Sproles as well. They decided not to tender him an offer, so right now they don't have a RB. Even if they're able to bring Sproles back they'll need another RB.

Thomas Jones to be released as well. Not a good year to be a 30 year old RB making 5 million.

This move is not actually a surprise since he was in the last year of his deal and the contract to end on march 5th at which time he can become a UFA.
