Playoffs are set in the 2010 TR Fantasy Football League!
So, the playoffs are set for the 2010 TR Fantasy Football season and I'd like to take a few minutes to go ahead and break down the 4 teams vying for the TR FF crown.
In the first matchup, we have #1 seed (and the cleverly named) Jon's Team going up against #4 seed HockeyMom, who needed a victory this week to eek into the playoffs.
Jon comes in with a remarkable 13-1 record, while HM comes in with an 8-6 mark. Jon is led by Fantasy hero Drew Brees and the waiver wire transaction of the year, Peyton Hillis. Throw in career years from Ahmad Bradshaw and Mike Wallace and the suddenly outstanding Chicago Defense (the New England game was the exception, not the rule) and Jon is throwing out a pretty darn solid team. He has Jahvid Best, Danny Woodhead, Davonne Bess and Donald Brown to round out his lineup. HM has done a nice job recovering from having Jay Cutler as her starting QB as David Garrard has come up big for her over the weeks. Her team, however, is anchored by standout RB Chris Johnson, WR stud Roddy White and the Steelers Defense. Also chipping in to help her into the playoffs has been Cedric Benson, Mike Thomas and Tony Gonzalez.
The interesting thing here is that over the course of the season, Jon only scored about 100 more points than HockeyMom...but somehow those 100 points translated to 5 more wins. Checking this year's schedule, I see that the teams played twice this year, with Jon winning both matchups. In the NFL, they say it's nearly impossible to beat a team 3 times in the same season. I hate to say it for HockeyMom, but I think that's what will happen this season and her run will come to an end this week as Drew Brees has really hit his stride and Peyton Hillis is just too strong right now.
My Prediction: Jon's Team over HockeyMom by 12.
The next matchup in quite intriguing. It features the league's scoring champ (1628 points, some 85 points more than the next highest team), dirtydistance against the 2nd place finisher, myblues.
The 2nd seed, myblues, comes in with an impressive 11-3 record with 1 of his losses coming to dirtydistance just a couple weeks ago. myblues has been winning games this year off the play of his 2-headed RB monster, Darren McFadden and Adrian Peterson. He's gotten solid contribution from Fred Jackson, Miles Austin and Marques Colston as well. The weak spot of myblues lineup is the up and down play of QB Carson Palmer. While Palmer has a decent yardage total, his INTs have been coming in chunks and that can kill a fantasy week. dirty is rolling out a 2-headed RB monster of his own with Jamaal Charles and fantasy MVP Arian Foster. Hakeem Nicks is looking to be 100% this week and he'll join Megatron, Tim Hightower and Deion Branch as solid starters this week. dirty WAS pretty solid at QB, but the 2nd concussion of the year for Aaron Rodgers may just keep him from the lineup, forcing dirty to start Eli Manning. This bodes well for myblues as Eli and Palmer pretty much cancel each other out, which helps neutralize myblues biggest weakness.
As interesting as the point differential was in the first matchup, it's even more mind boggling here. myblues was outscored by dirtydistance by some 200+ points on the season, yet myblues has 2 more wins. How does one explain that? Well, let me tell you. As someone who's been in fantasy leagues with myblues for several years running...he is, without a doubt, the luckiest SOB to ever play Fantasy Football. Not that he doesn't draft well and manage a team well...but I think the numbers speak for themselves. And even though lineups and history seem to favor dirtydistance for the win this week...it's a shame that he's lining up against myblues. I fear the highest scoring team in the league will end up playing the consolation game next week.
My Prediction: myblues by 18.
And there you have it...that's the rundown of the TR Fantasy playoffs as I see them...I'll be back next week to preview the Super Bowl!!!
Thanks,
Jim

Great preview, thanks!
And as I saw the prize thread, I am super excited this year, hoping to plow through my opponents. I am really weak at WR, but have loaded up my bench with possible threats.

yup, that's me. I already has one other team as jetscollector, so didn't want to confuse myself. But I opted for a name that refers to me, not some clever pun(like i would normally do.

Wouldn't that be the ultimate kick in the teeth...to lose to a team that started your own guy!
