Panini America Basketball Brand Manager David Porter on what new development in 2010-11 Classics he's most excited about:
"The Classic Moments insert is my favorite because the set highlights some of the outstanding accomplishments in the game of basketball. From Wilt's 100-point effort in 1962 to Blake Griffin scoring 20 points in his NBA debut this season, classic NBA moments come to life in this insert."

Here's what we pulled in our box of 2010-11 Panini Classics Basketball.

Base, Parallel & Insert Cards;

Very nice simple design. I like the team colors incorporated into card theme. I think they do that more in basketball than any other sport. The design on the front includes name, team, position, number and Classics logo. The back includes up to the last five years of playing stats. A career stat line is at the bottom as well.

The back of the Kobe card reads as follows;

"The plan for Lakers coach Phill Jackson late in tight games goes something like this: Clear out one side of the floor and let Bryant do his thing. Not including 2010-11, Bryant leads the NBA since 2000-01 with 20 shots that have given his team the lead in the final 10 seconds of regulation or OT.

I always have liked the interesting little tidbits of information you would never have known, if not reading the card backs.

Here is the insert and parallel breakdown from this break;
  • (2) Silver /250 parallels
  • (1) Dress code
  • (1) Legend /999
  • (1) Double double debut
  • (1) Classic combo
  • (3) Classic greats - one is silver /250
  • (5) Blast from the past

Game-Used Cards;

2010-11 Panini Classics Basketball has actual game worn jerseys in the product, which makes it a little more attractive than event used jerseys. The Dress Code Tim Duncan is numbered out of /199. Tim Duncan is the Spurs leading lifetime scorer, excluding the fact that Gervin would be if the ABA stats were added. What can I say about the Bad Boys of the NBA Combo. It's a great combination of one of the toughest backcourt combinations ever. The card is numbered out of /99...I really would have loved to have seen patches in this one.

Autographed Cards;

2010-11 Panini Classics Basketball offers (2) autographed cards per box. The players we pulled are Jeremy Lin of the Golden State Warriors, via Harvard, numbered to /699 and Gordon Hayward of the Utah Jazz, via Butler, and numbered out of /449. Both auto graphed cards are on card which makes it more appealing to most collectors. Also, both are centered well on the card.

Final Thoughts on 2010-11 Panini Classics Basketball;

2010-11 Panini Classics Basketball is a quality product by all means. The (2) autographs and (2) game-used are good value for any box nowadays. I still would have liked to have seen a rookie set besides the autographed version. The parallels and inserts are nice, but a rookie set would be better in my opinion.

These boxes can usually be had for between $60 and $80 on most sites that I have checked. The $60 was on ebay and was a great buy at that price point.

Here's how I would rate this product, based on what we experienced during our break;
  • Value = 5
  • Innovation = 4
  • Fun and Experience = 5
  • Rebuy Value = 4
I rate this product a "A" for Panini!

The autos are beautiful, and the base design is a retro style that hasn't been done to death - very nice.

Great review of a solid product. The classic look is good and the variety of legends in the mix is good for long time basketball fans.

Looks like a very nice product. All these cards are pretty aesthetically pleasing to the eye. And as a Pistons fan I love that Bad Boys classic combos card!
