Base Cards
Two base cards I have pulled are Paul Pierce of Boston Celtics and Rashard Lewis of Orlando Magic. I love the card design and texture of the card and it reminds me of Upper Deck Portraits series and Topps Turkey Red & Murad series that came out few years ago. Turkey Red & Murad were both immensely popular and I hope same for this series. I wished I have pulled more base cards out of such a classy product, but since every card is short printed and numbered, I was happy with two base cards. All base cards are numbered to 450. There was also a 5 x 7 box topper. In the past experience, box topper were not a huge success but it was a pleasant surprise to see a legend player in a box topper.
Parallels;
The two Parallels I have pulled are Bronze parallel (numbered to 149) of Aaron Brooks (Houston Rockets) and Silver parallel (numbered to 99) of Eric Gordon (Los Angeles Clippers). The parallels have identical design with a base card design but bottom part where team name and player name are located is in different color. It makes it very easy to distinguish parallels from base cards but as a collector, I wish for more revolutionary design for parallels to bring back glories of 1990s.
Insert Cards;
2 Inserts were pulled, Artistry (numbered to 99) of Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic) and Hardwood Heroes (numbered to 249) of Patrick Ewing (New York Knicks). I was happy to see some inserts and it happened to be two great centers of our times. Both inserts, just like base sets have classy, portrait like designs.
I was actually disappointed to see three Game Used cards. As this trend continued for a while, game used cards no longer hold value even if they are numbered. With a classic design Court Kings product have, in my opinion game used cards did not go well with the design. However, I especially liked the Supreme Court card design and amused to see Supreme Court building on the background of the card.
Autographed cards

I was surprised to pull two Autographed cards in this box and have two excellent Rookie autographs. Both cards have sticker autos which is disappointing for every collector, but in this case, it was not bad at all. I think card design overshadows sticker autographs and both cards look stellar and solid. Both rookie autographs are numbered to 649.
Final Thoughts on 2009-10 Panini Court Kings basketball;
While the design of this product is above average and I would not be surprised to see this product as voted for “Best card design” by Beckett Basketball at the end of the year. However, at around $85 per box, it would be very hard for collectors to go after. This product does offer autographed cards and game used cards but with only 11 cards in a box, it becomes very rigorous for collectors’ wallets to purchase multiple boxes. It was a very nice effort for Panini to come out with a product with every card being serial numbered. Great job by Panini with card designs!
Here's how I would rate this product;
- Value = 3
- Innovation = 4
- Fun and Experience = 4
- Rebuy Value = 2
I rate this product an "B" for Panini!
