Default 2009-10 Panini Timeless Treasures Basketball Review

2009-10 Panini Timeless Treasures Basketball

High end tin products are a fairly recent phenomenon in the collecting world. Beyond the cards themselves, the tins too are nice collectibles and can be used to keep the cards well-guarded. Panini's Timeless Treasures product features a tin with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar pictured on the front. This set highlights both past, current, and future NBA stars.

Set Features;

Each sealed box contains 1 pack of 5 cards each in a 100 card set. >>> Each PACK/BOX contains THREE Memorabilia and/or Autograph cards. Parallel sets: Silver (#`d to 25), Gold (#`d to 10), Platinum (#`d to 1), Signature (Silver > #`d to 100, Gold > #`d to 10, Platinum > #`d to 1), Material (Jersey > #`d to 100, Jersey Prime > #`d to 10, Laundry Tag > #`d to 1, Laundry Tag Team Logo > # to 1, Laundry Tags Logoman > #`d to 1), and Rookie Year Materials Prime Quads (#`d to 10). Inserts: Materials Ink Jersey (parallels: Prime > #`d to 25, Laundry Tags > #`d to 1, Laundry Tags Team Logo > # to 1, and Laundry Tags Logoman > #`d to 1), Home & Road Gamers (parallels: Prime > #`d to 10, Signatures > #`d to 25, and Prime Signatures > #`d to 10), Statistical Champions Materials (parallels: Prime > #`d to 10, Signatures > #`d to 25, and Prime Signatures > #`d to 10), Championship Season Materials (parallels: Prime > #`d to 25, Signatures > #`d to 25, Prime Signatures > #`d to 10, Laundry Tags > #`d to 1, Laundry Tag Team Logo > #`d to 1, Laundry Tag NBA Logoman > #`d to 1, Laundry Tag Signatures > #`d to 1, Laundry Tag Team Logo Signatures > # to 1, and Laundry Tag NBA Logoman Signatures > #`d to 1), Championship Season Materials (Combos, Prime parallel > #`d to 10, Triples, Prime parallel > #`d to 10, and Quads, Prime parallel > #`d to 10), Championship Season NBA Logoman (Signature parallel > #`d to 1), Private Signings Autograph cards, NBA Apprentice Materials (parallels: Prime > #`d to 25, Signature > #`d to 50, Signature Prime > #`d to 10, Laundry Tags > #`d to 1, Laundry Tag Team Logo > #`d to 1, Laundry Tag NBA Logoman > #`d to 1, Laundry Tag Team Logo Signatures > #`d to 1, and Laundry Tag NBA Logoman Signatures > #`d to 1), NBA Apprentice Materials (Combos, Prime parallel > #`d to 10, Triples, Prime parallel > #`d to 10, and Quads, Prime parallel > #`d to 10), and Souvenir Cuts (Materials parallel > #`d to 25).

Here's what I pulled in our box of 2009-10 Panini Timeless Treasures.

Base Cards;

The base cards have a classy design that reminds me a little of Upper Deck's SP Authentic base cards from not long ago. The player's name is in clear foil on the front top, his team's name directly below in a smaller font, and his position and jersey number off to the top sides. The set logo is on the bottom of the card front.

The base cards are also serially numbered to 399 on the backs. We pulled Ray Allen and Dwight Howard, who are both currently battling each other in the Eastern Conference Finals as this product was opened.

Insert Cards;

Timeless Treasures is chock-full of inserts featuring autographs and various memorabilia types. Our insert pull, "NBA Apprentice Combo Signatures," was an excellent dual autograph of rookie standout Brandon Jennings and Jodie Meeks numbered to just 25. This treat was certainly the highlight of the tin break.

Game Used Cards;

The two game used cards we pulled are parallels of the base cards. These game used cards are numbered out of 100 and feature single-color swatches. We got Carmelo Anthony and Josh Smith.

Final Thoughts on 2009-10 Panini Timeless Treasures;

Timeless Treasures is a solid high end tin set. As with all high end sets of this type, there is a gamble involved (especially with the rookies), but this release looks great and has an impressive checklist of past, present, and future stars whose autographs and/or game used cards you might obtain. It even comes with the convenience of a checklist inside the tin so you can see what you pulled along with what else you could pull if you get another tin.

Here's how I would rate this product;
  • Value = 3
  • Innovation = 3
  • Fun and Experience = 4
  • Rebuy Value = 3

I rate this product "B" for Panini.

NPN Information;

The NPN chance for Timeless Treasures concluded on May 10, 2010.

Nice review and nice cards. I would expect a bit more from the jersey cards. Patches would be better, because these seem like regular jersey cards that could be pulled in any of the Panini products. If it's a high end product, I expect something nicer throughout.

Thx for the review. Find this collection very classic, very sober, perhaps a little too much... But i like the important number of parallels. A nice Panini product.
