Default 2008 Topps Co-Signers Baseball Review

2008 Topps Co-Signers Baseball

Hobby exclusive Topps Co-Signers Baseball returns in 2008 with exciting new features: Quad Cut Signature Cards, Co-Signer Cowhide Cards and most exciting of all - Boxing Autographed Cards highlighting 40 Ring Technicians!

2008 Topps Co-Signers Baseball is another medium range priced product from Topps. You get three autographs per box (including one dual, triple or quad autograph). You also get 12 parallels in each box too.

Set Features;

Each sealed box contains 12 packs of 6 cards each in a 115 card set including 5 Rookies and 15 Autograph Rookies (also 5 Rookie Autograph variations). >>> Each box contains TWO Autograph cards and ONE Dual Autograph card. Parallel sets (9:box): Silver (Red > #`d to 500, Bronze > #`d to 400, Blue > #`d to 300, Green > #`d to 200, and Gold > #`d to 150), Hyper Plaid (Red > #`d to 100, Bronze > #`d to 75, Blue > #`d to 50, Green > #`d to 25, Gold > #`d to 10, and Silver > each is a 1-of-1), and Printing Plates (each is a 1-of-1; 840 total including 140 Autograph Rookies). Inserts: Autograph cards (Solo Sigs, Tri-Signers, and Quad-Signers), Boxing Autograph cards (Solo Sigs, Co-Signers, Tri-Signers, and Quad-Signers), and Co-Signers Autograph cards (Solo, Cut, Quad Cut, and Dual Cowhide > each is a 1-of-1).

Here's what we pulled in our box of 2008 Topps Co-Signers Baseball.

Base and Parallel Cards;

I like the layout of this years set, a larger partial version of the player seems to look better on the front on some of the cards. The Topps Co-Signers logo is at the upper left hand corner, the players name is at the bottom right. Team name is on the left and at the top...the team logo is the backdrop on the card design. The back of the cards has the normal short bio along with last years stats and also major league career stat totals since 2005 or only their last couple of years if a new MLB player. Some very nice parallels in this box! Two are rookies so we pulled an extra parallel in this box as my count comes to (13).

Below is a listing of parallels we pulled from our box.
  • (1) Hyper Plaid Blue...Ethier
  • (1) Hyper Plaid Bronze...Verlander
  • (1) Silver Green...Ohlendorf
  • (1) Silver Gold...Santana
  • (2) Silver Blue...Santana, Pujols
  • (3) Silver Bronze...Dye, Haffner, Fielder
  • (4) Silver Red...Ramirez, Maine, McCann, Hart

Rookie Cards;

The rookie cards have the same base design, but are very apparent from the rest of the set with the rookie logo in the upper left hand corner. The Buchholz card is the way I would have like all of the cards to be, as it showcases the player more than the full length version on most of the cards. The same short bio as on the base and the stats are from 2007 if in the majors or from their minor league experience. We pulled 5 rookies in our box...here's how it broke down.
  • (2) Regular Rookies...Jonathan Meloan (Dodgers), Clay Bucholz (Red Sox)
  • (1) Parallel...Ross Ohlendorf /200 (Yankees)
  • (2) Autographs...(1) is a parallel

Autographed Cards (3) Per Box (1) is a multi-player;

The autographed cards we pulled are nice high-quality autographs. There is no bubbling or separation and they are complete autographs on the sticker. They actually fit the design of the card and actually add to the card instead of detracting from it. They are of Kevin Hart of the Chicago Cubs, Clint Sammons of the Atlanta Braves. The dual autograph is a redemption for Jeff Francis and Jason Hirsh.

Final Thoughts on 2008 Topps Co-Signers Baseball;

Topps Co-Signers is always a hit for Topps with me as it's in the mid-range market. The (3) autographs guaranteed per box is the great selling feature for this box. Also, the fact that you are going to get 12 parallels and about five or six rookies cards is good value in my opinion. These boxes can usually be had for between $62 and $89 on most sites that I have checked. If you can get them at the low end it's a good buy in my opinion! Congratulations to Topps for keeping this product in the medium price range for us collectors on a limited budget.

Here's how I would rate this product;
  • Value = 5
  • Innovation = 4
  • Fun and Experience = 5
  • Rebuy Value = 4
I rate this product an "A" for Topps! It's nice to see mid range boxes contain three autographed cards. Especially when one is a multi autographed card.
