Default 2007 Topps Baseball Series 2

2007 Topps Series 2 Baseball

2007 Topps Baseball – the highly anticipated and celebrated baseball card set continues in Series 2 with Generation Now, the Greatest Generation and Topps EXCLUSIVE Autograph and Relic cards from Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio and Alex Rodriguez!

Set Features;

Each sealed box contains 36 packs of 10 cards each in a 330 card base set. Parallel sets: First Edition, Gold (#`d to 2007), and Platinum (#`d to 1). Inserts: Stars, Opening Day, Trading Places (also Memorabilia version and Autograph version), Hit Parade, HR Derby Contest (#`d to 999), Alex Rodriguez `Road to 500` (also Autograph version > #`d to 1), Generation Now 1:4 (also Autograph version > #`d to 1), Mickey Mantle Collection 1:6 (Story, HR History, 1953 reprint > #`d to 53, and HR History Memorabilia > #`d to 7), Joe DiMaggio 1:5 (The Streak and The Streak before The Streak), Distinguished Service 1:12 (also Cut Signature version > #`d to 1), and 2006 Highlights (Memorabilia and Autograph versions).

Here's what I pulled in our box of Topps Series 2 Baseball.

Base Cards and Parallels;

I liked this base set when series 1 came out and I haven't changed my opinion on them. A very nice continuation from a great new designed set from Topps. The black-bordered cards are very condition sensitive though as any little ding will create a white spot. The front of the cards has a nice facsimile autograph on the front which makes the cards stand out a little bit from others. The top of the card has the Topps logo along with the players team name. The bottom has the players name is bright silver foil. Very easy to read on the black background. The back of the card has a short bio and complete player stats from previous years in the majors; or minors / majors combined stats if the player hasn't been in the league that long. There is a real nice gold parallel set that is numbered to 2007. We pulled (4) Gold parallels in our box.

Rookie Cards and Parallels;

The rookies have the Rookie Logo on the upper left hand side of the card. The same bio formation and the players last years stats in the minors are also included on the back of the cards, just like the base cards. Below the stats on the back is an expanded bio that basically tells information from the previous season alone. We pulled (21) rookie cards in our box of 2007 Topps Series 2 Baseball.

Insert Cards;

The inserts came fast and furious in this box...below is a compiled list of what we pulled from our box of each insert.
  • (4) Topps Stars...15 superstar players including Albert Pujols, Alfonso Soriano, and David Wright
  • (3) Opening Day...15 cards featuring panoramic shots of both the opposing lineups from 2007 Opening Day
  • (4) Trading Places...25 players involved in the biggest transactions of the off-season
  • (4) Hit Parade ...Top ten active career leaders in home runs, RBIs and hits
  • (1) Alex Rodriguez Road to 500...The next 25 Home Runs in the A-Rod Continuity Program – #201-225
  • (3) Distinguished Service...Features 15 players and military figures who fought in World War II
  • (9) Generation Now...Highlighting the accomplishments of 200 emerging stars from the 2006 season
  • (6) Mickey Mantle...The Mickey Mantle Story and Home Run History...Mantle’s Home Runs #302-401
  • (4) Joe DiMaggio...The Streak
  • (4) Joe DiMaggio...The Streak Before the Streak
  • (12) 2008 All-Star Game Promotion Code

Game-Used Cards;

The Game-used pulled was a 2006 Highlights World Series Hero, David Eckstein of the St. Louis Cardinals game-used bat. The piece is in the shape of home plate, which is quite unique.

Autographed Cards;

We were very fortunate to pull an autograph in our box. It is a 2006 Highlights, 9th career four-hit game autograph card of Aaron Boone of the Cleveland Indians. A very nice continuous autograph with no bubbling and no breaks. This set features 20 player highlights from 2006.

Final Thoughts on 2007 Topps Series 2 Baseball;

This is a nice classic Topps set. These boxes can usually be had for between $31 and $45 on most sites that I have checked. We pulled a real nice game-used and a great autographed card in our box. So, this was an exceptional box in my opinion. The base set should be easy to complete even though they have the red back variation as well. Inserts...if you like them this box is full of them with all of the different sets. A very nice lower end classic product from Topps with some value for your money.

Here's how I would rate this product;
  • Value = 4
  • Innovation = 4
  • Fun and Experience = 5
  • Rebuy Value = 4

I rate this product an "A" for Topps!

thats actually not that bad, but i like the thrill of getting auto's and GU's, even if it means putting down a little more money, so thats why i put down my money with Upperdeck. im buying a box of 2007 Artifacts as soon as my next paycheck comes in :-p

For a $35-$45 box of cards this was way better than your ratings indicate. Between Topps and Artifacts they are two different card products marketed towards different audiences.
