Default 2010 Allen & Ginter Baseball Review

Allen & Ginter may be the most anticipated Baseball set of the year, and it has been worth the wait! I have always enjoyed the “throw back” or “retro” style cards, but A & G is my favorite by far! The colors, the creativity, and the artistry, all combine to form one of the most sought after sets of modern sports cards. In addition to all of the “collectable” reasons stated above, these cards are absolutely great for “in-person” autographs, and I believe that appeals to the younger collectors!

Set Features

Each sealed Hobby box contains 24 packs of 8 cards. Allen & Ginter is a 350 card base set that includes 50 short printed cards (#s 301 through 350), and breaks down like this: 260 veterans, 30 rookies, 25 historic figures and 35 champions. Topps boasts of three “hits” per hobby box, and that is what we pulled, including an elusive “case” hit in the Rip card. New for this year are the Book Cards. These are a hinged card of two different players. Each card, numbered out of 10, will include two autographs and two jersey swatches. All of the following are returning in this year’s set: DNA Relics (10 Cards all are 1/1), Framed Autograph Cards (Red-Ink Versions #/10 Found In Rip Cards), N43 Autograph Cards (#/15), N43 Autograph/Relic Cards (#/5), Cut Signature Autograph Cards (#1/1), as well as the Minis, & Mini Parallels: Allen & Ginter Back 1:5 packs, Black 1:10, No Number limited to 50 copies, Bazooka Back #'d/25, Framed Cloth #'d/10 - hobby exclusive, Wood #'d/1 (hobby exclusive), & Printing Plates, Mini Exclusives #351 – 400 + Stephen Strasburg added as card #401 (Mini Exclusives found inside Rip Cards). The Box Topper possibilities include the following: N43 (15 cards), N43 Relics (10 cards, #'d/25), N43 Autographs (10 cards, #'d/15), N43 Autograph Relics (5 cards, #'d/5), Cabinet (10 cards), Cabinet Relic Card (10 cards, #'d/1). If you want to try to crack the code, you’ll have to find the CELESTIAL STARS cards which appear to be seeded at the rate of one per case!

Here is what we pulled from our box of 2010 Allen & Ginter

Final Thoughts on 2010 Allen & Ginter Baseball

I can’t say enough good things about this years Allen & Ginter. When you consider all of the possibilities, combined with the beauty of these cards, you just can’t go wrong. The new Mini inserts are always entertaining to see, and the 50 SP make the set a manageable challenge. Regardless if you are a set builder, player collector, or just into Baseball cards, this is a must set for the year! Can you “Crack the Code”?

I totally agree! I love these cards. I know some people in the collecting world think they are getting old but I look forward to their issue every year. Topps gets really creative with ideas like national animals and this-day-in-history and I really enjoy learning about some of these people, places, or things that I have never heard of. Not to mention the sweet gimmick of cracking the code. A&G gets two thumbs up from me!

Great review of a classic product and the history cards give it an interesting feel. The cards would be great for on card autos.
