Here's what I pulled in our box of 2009 Topps Tribute Baseball Trading Cards:
The base set is a super high-gloss set. The clean design really lets you focus on the photography. The background is faded like an old vignette photograph. The back design is nicely organized and has a dirt or a “sandlot” look to it, which reminds you of the ballfield. There is the card number, the player’s photograph, and the team logo at the top, a short write-up in the middle, and career stats at the bottom. The placement of the card number made it easy to organize the cards.
This will be tough for set collectors, since we received 18 regular base cards, and 6 of those were duplicates.
The parallels come in a 4 variations. The design is the same as the base, but the top portion of the background is a different color. As a player collector, I love collecting multiple parallels of a single player. We pulled 1 parallel in every pack, and they were:
• (3) Blue #/219: George Sisler, Greg Maddox, and C.C. Sabathia
• (2) Black #/99: Howard Johnson & Ozzie Smith
• (1) Gold #/50: Johnny Mize
The way the jersey cards are numbered, I believe that they are a parallel of the main set.
The foil and the color parallels relate to the main set, which I mentioned above. The design involves the player on the left, with the Tribute logo and the player’s name underneath. To the right is the player’s team logo over the “sandlot” design, the memorabilia swatches underneath, and a gold foil design separating those two aspects. Once again, it is a clean and simple design.
The 3 memorabilia cards we pulled were:
• (1) Regular Foil #/99: Tony Gwynn (dual jersey)
• (1) Blue #/75: Justin Morneau (bat)
• (1) Black #/50: Manny Ramirez (dual bat)
The design of these autographed memorabilia cards are the same as the regular version, but the autograph is inserted where the team logo was. Above that auto, it now says “topps certified autograph issue.” Also, where the gold foil separator was, it now says “game-used memorabilia.”
The 3 autographed memorabilia cards we pulled were:
• (1) Regular Foil #/99: Jay Bruce (dual jersey)
• (1) Blue #/75: Andre Dawson (bat)
• (1) Black #/50: Melky Cabrera (dual jersey)
Final Thoughts on 2009 Topps Tribute Baseball Trading Cards;
The best part of this pack was the loaded memorabilia cards! Very exciting pulls.
I think we beat the odds by pulling 3 autographed cards!
And what a combination of memorabilia cards! A bat card, a dual bat card, a dual jersey card, an autographed bat card, and 2 autographed dual jersey cards!!!
That was very cool that it was not the same ol, same ol in every pack. Great job mixing it up, Topps!
This was a great buy for the memorabilia collector, the autograph collector, and the serial numbered collectors! This is also a great set for the player collectors, since there is a nice amount of parallels without overdoing it.
However, it is not an ideal box for the set collector since we pulled only 18 base cards. I was also bummed that every pack had a duplicate base card, so we basically only pulled 12 base cards.
So, you get either one relic or autographed relic card numbered to 99 or less per pack; 6 per box…AWESOME! This was such a fun product to break.
Here's how I would rate this product;
