Ebay question
I recently won an auction for a Jason Varitek SP Authentic Super Swatch Jersey Platinum /45 for $2. The seller charged me $4.00 for shipping/handling which I thought was a little rediculous, but assumed it would be well protected, insured, delivery confirmation...something of the sort. Well, the card arrived today in a plain white envelope with a $0.39 stamp and the only protection was a flimsy card saver. Needless to say the card arrived with two large creases in it. I sent the seller a message to remedy the situation and they replied with "send the card back and we'll refund the purchase price ($2)" They won't reimburse the $4 shipping charge, which they probably pocketed $3.50 of it.
Any recommendation besides leaving negative feedback???
PLMK and thanks for the read.
Kevin

post his ebay name for all to block and then let the members slam him with derogatory emails......wait, did I say that out loud?

"Book Values" are numbers on a page. I trade cards, not book values. If you start quoting book values, I'll probably pass on the trade. Let's return trading to what its suppossed to be...fun!

LOL SouthernSportscards !
Not much you can do other than leaving appropriate feedback. The shipping cost is usually never refundable, and if you send the card back for the $2 refund, it'll cost you almost that much in return postage, (if ya don't send it back with some sort of tracking, you'll most likely never see the refund).
I'd just make a self note of the sellers ID, and never shop there again.

Did you pay with PayPal? I would file a dispute. I have gotten shipping charges back from them, though you may just have to pay for cost to send back and DC.
Still, you'd get the $4 back and it'd cost you a buck. Keep everything until you decide though and take photos of it all.
It's not much money but to me it's the principal of the matter.

I have one almost just as bad. I bought a football auto on eBay for my HOF collection. First the guy sent the wrong card to me. Second, I paid like $3 in shipping. The package came with a $0.39 stamp affixed. The bad part about it - also in my mailbox that day was a little envelope from my mail carrier that said I owed $0.13 for the shipping on the card. I can handle paying the $0.13, but when $3 was added to the auction, I should not have to pay because the seller did not put sufficient postage on the package. It just made me laugh - how pathetic is this?

unfortunetly, shipping charges also include "handling" charges. In a lot of cases this charge is over inflated to cover ones investment, so small bids don't end up costing the seller money. I have encountered both examples in the past and have also found it a bad idea to leave negative feedback due to a retalitory one left for you. Sometimes you just gotta bite the bullet and never buy from the guy again. The only way I have found to prevent this is to check ones feedback to see if any reads "well packaged" or "arrived safely" or something to that effect. My advice would be to wait for him to leave feedback first, so he can't leave you negative feedback and then leave appropriate feedback for him to help others.

I pretty much refuse to buy from anyone that charges over $3 for shipping unless they are including DC &/or insurance. It's a complete joke. I would be so pissed off when I've paid just $3 and received my card in a white envelope with a $0.39 stamp on it.

That is why I only pay with Paypal. They protect you from these type of actions.

This is a great discussion, but I'm gonna move it down to baseball talk forum to make more room for the trade and sell posts. Thanks ~ "Nail"
