the Tri-Star Show in San Francisco
Well, the Tri-Star Show this past weekend just ended in San Francisco. It was a lot of work, but a lot of fun!! I helped a buddy, Lou Scalia, from Stacks of Plaques, based in Florida set up and tear down his booth. The autograph guests were great, with the unfortunate exception being the cancellation of Willie McCovey and Johnny Bench. Willie Mays was the most notable autograph guest. It was amazing to see the pulpable crowd excitement for current Giants players who are the defending World Series Champions. (I got to see their World Series rings. Some of them wore them, and some of them didn't. Just a personal choice, I guess.) I did also have a nice conversation with former Royals and Cards manager, Whitey Herzog about the 1987 NLCS between the Giants and Cards. Herzog also mentioned that he thought the Steroids Era was too heavily weighed for the hitters against the pitchers, which I do agree with.
I did buy some nice stuff-- nothing too expensive, just a couple packs of 2011 Bowman Baseball, and the occassional Giants World Series stuff. I also got a beautifully-autographed photo of Juan Marichal, too, and a framed photo of former Red Sox and Expos pitcher Bill Lee.
I also sold my 1965 Topps Baseball card set. I didn't want to do it, but when you've been unemployed for a while, sometimes you just don't have a choice. I am still hoping that there is a job out there for me, somewhere and soon, too. Think good thoughts for me!!
